Gene Haas Foundation grant will assist CPCC machining students

Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) has received a $20,000 scholarship grant from the Gene Haas Foundation. Students in CPCC's Computer Integrated Machining Technology program will benefit from the grant.
Gene Haas Foundation grant will assist CPCC machining students
Founded in 1999, the Gene Haas Foundation is dedicated to supporting education programs that prepare students for manufacturing careers. Recognizing the importance of U.S. manufacturing, the Gene Haas Foundation is committed to enhancing manufacturing education by providing scholarships for machinist training.

CPCC will use the grant funding to provide students blue-print-reading textbooks and access to ToolingU an online provider of content to support manufacturing education. In addition, Gene Haas Foundation funds will help cover the cost of National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS) certification exams for students who complete the required coursework. NIMS certification is recognized and valued by employers in the Charlotte region.

"This is the second-consecutive year the Gene Haas Foundation has extended scholarship grant funding to CPCC machining students," said Chris Paynter, CPCC dean of STEM programs. "We certainly appreciate the assistance the Gene Haas Foundation has provided our students and the foundation's continued support of manufacturing education."

The Computer Integrated Machining Technology Program at CPCC provides students the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills in computer numerical control (CNC) programming and a broader knowledge in CNC graphics programming. The program is designed to develop skills in the theory and safe use of hand tools, power machinery, computerized equipment and sophisticated precision inspection instruments. Students learn to interpret blueprints, set up manual and CNC machines; perform basic and advanced machining operations and make decisions to ensure work quality is maintained. Program faculty are NIMS certified, and the college serves as a NIMS training site.
