For more than 35 years as a premier realtor, Mr. William Scurry was a mentor to many and a community leader. He focused on supporting his family and community while doing his best to live a life in honor of God. This desire went beyond his professional role of realtor and earned him the nickname "Mayor of University City" for his involvement in the community.
He served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Charlotte Regional Realtors Association, Chairman of the Board of the University YMCA, awardee of the YMCA's "George Williams Award" for branch leadership, a member of the Board of Directors for the local Alzheimer's Association, and a member of the Board of Directors for the Charlotte Housing Authority.
Mr. Scurry's commitment to building a legacy impacted everyone around him, in such a way that he earned the respect and trust of his family, friends, and clients. Though the legacy he leaves is integral to many, its most visible impact continues to be made by Danielle Scurry and Associates in the Charlotte real estate market. William A. Scurry was a beloved husband, father, family member and/or friend. It is the hope of family and friends that recipients of this scholarship will use the funds wisely to see that education and training will secure a brighter future not only for themselves but for their community.
